Travel Tip for Lighter Travel

What can you carry? I’m not talking about trying to get all the grocery bags into the house in one run because why would you make two trips? What can you carry up two flights of stairs without stopping? Have you ever watched someone trying to get through the airport with more than they can obviously carry? Maybe you’ve been that person, struggling to decide how many pairs of shoes is too many and ends up packing WAY more than you need.

Suitcase Stack in Train Station

It didn’t take long for Spencer and I to realize that all of these problems can be solved in with one simple solution You need to be able to carry your luggage up two flights of stairs and lift it overhead on the train (or bus or airplane). And do you know what? It works! We’ve traveled all over Europe with just one suitcase and one backpack each. It’s a great tactic when traveling with friends too because we all have that one friend who would pack three suitcases and two backpacks for a 5 day trip. Sometimes I feel like I can cheat because Spencer will often come to my rescue and lift my bag overhead, but if needed I could do it.

With this rule in mind, it makes packing so much easier. We will plan on getting more than one use out of tops and wear jeans several days. This was probably the hardest part for me because I rarely have a day where I don’t spill something on my shirt. As for shoes, think about what you will need on your trip. Odds are you don’t need more than one or two pairs of shoes. The exception for us is that we ALWAYS bring a pair of flip flops. In fact, we each have one pair that stays in the suitcase.

Hopefully this tip will help packing for your next adventure a little less stressful.
